Keeping Your Mental Health in Check While Working at Home

Many employees around the world have been obligated to work remotely when the pandemic struck. A lot were forced to isolate themselves from their family and friends, but still had to keep working to make a living. Studies show that there has been a dramatic increase in mental health issues when the virus spread.

If you are working from home, it is important that you take care of yourself in all aspects, whether physically or mentally. Learn these tips to avoid a decline in your mental health.

Establish a routine

Working in the office before means that you had a routine. You used to get up from the bed, take a shower, eat breakfast, and go to work. Now that your home is your office, you must create a routine as well. Identify the start and end of your work schedule. In this way, you prevent yourself from working outside your scheduled hours. This creates a boundary to know when to work and when to rest.

Set up a workspace

One of the hardest things from working at home is separating your personal life from your working life. Having a space solely dedicated for working will help you detach the stress you feel from your job. You will be more focused in working if you are in a conducive environment

However, it is understandable that not everyone can make a space for an office at home. Some people opt to try working in a shared office in Singapore. You can co-work with other people in a shared space for a small price. Find what works best for you.

Get active physically and socially

Engaging in physical activities, as well as maintaining a healthy social life, helps in strengthening your mental health.  Exercise reduces stress and can help in easing symptoms of depression. On the other hand, investing time in reaching out to your family and friends can boost your mood. In this way, you will feel a lot less isolated.

Find a hobby

Most of your day you will be spent in front of a screen. It is necessary to limit your screen exposure and find other hobbies that can cut back your time in front of the computer. Allot a time for these hobbies – may it be baking, painting, or reading. Having a time solely for yourself can help improve your mental health.

Simply put, do not let work be your whole life at home. Know your limitations and set your boundaries. And most important of all, know when to seek professional help when you need it. Keep in mind that help is always available for you.
